What else is on ………..

Saturday April 21st

STRAIGHT AS QUO    £10

A  fundraising concert for the Shire Hall.

Head down mindless boogie with one of the best Quo tributes around, tickets from the Shire Hall office 01430 432510 or on the door.

WE REV IT UP!!

Not a musical or theatrical event…but something occuring in Howden nonetheless…

SUNDAY APRIL 22nd see’s a sponsored motorbike rideout from Howden, meeting at the new CoOp car park, off Hailgate, DN14 7SU, 1030 am for an 11am start.

We will be going up to Newton Upon Rawcliffe near Pickering raising funds for MacMillan Nurses, this will be the second time we have done this, last year raising nearly £1,500.  We will be doing a drop off system and going up via Pocklington to Seaways at Fridaythorpe for a cuppa and a bit  of bucket rattling and on from there up to Newton Upon Rawcliffe to sample some of the fine fare at the White Swan.

The personal motivation for organising this MacMillan fundraiser is that an old friend of mine, Simon Duffy, the landlord of the White Swan, died just before Christmas 2010 and the MacMillan nurses enabled him to do so at home with his family.

Everyone on two and three wheels welcome, you can either bung a fiver per person into the kitty on the day or download a sponsor form from the link below and bring shedloads of lolly with you.

There is a strong possibility that there will be a corresponding run, same time, same day, from Hunmanby up to Newton. I have already done a poster for that which you can reproduce below, Its not clear how many bikes will top for this one, all being well there has been a feature in the Evening News, Tony and Dawn down at the Burton Arms have been plugging it and there is stuff out on forums and websites as well as posters in the village. Rather than impose a route here we would like to leave it to the people who turn up on the day to come up with their own. There will be a guy called Simon Baines who will be there from 10.30am who will help coordinate things a bit but if we could ask you to bring yer lolly and sponsor forms with you to Newton it would be much appreciated, we will sort that side out at the other end.

If you want to run off a copy of the poster (s) and sponsor forms for the event just click on the links below and print away to your hearts content.

A fund raising concert for Howden AFC and Goole Viking Striders. Including their respective junior sections.

Saturday January 22nd see’s the unexpected arrival in Howden of one of the countries very best exponants of blues/rock. Very well known to Howden audiences over the years following their numerous appearances at the Shire Hall, THE BLUE BISHOPS will work their mojo at the Bowmans Hotel starting at 9pm.

The added bonus to the appearance is that there is no entry fee, yes…thats right…its FREE!! All you have to do to take advantage of this unique opportunity is to just turn up!

The current line-up brings together: Geoff Grange, ever present lead vocalist, guitarist and harmonica player who has had a long collaboration with Bill Wyman and Nicky Hopkins, among many others.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Jim Rodford on bass, formerly of Argent, the Kinks and the Animals, and currently combining a role in the Zombies with his Blue Bishops commitments.

Justin Hildreth on drums, whose world touring track record includes periods with Joan Armatrading, Thomas Dolby and Nina Hagen

Blue Bishops Founder, Simon Burrett on guitar and slide guitar and vocals, who started recording with Mike Vernon associate and Blue Horizon artist, Vaughan Rees in the late 60s, and went on to record and play in many bands on the London Rock scene, including seminal psychedelic folk rock outfit , Tony, Caro and John whose rare, collectable recordings are celebrated as some of the very best of their genre . Simon has recently guested as a vocalist on Martin Barre’s acclaimed solo album, ‘Stage Left’.

While many bands in the genres of music the Bishops span often depend on their versions of classic numbers, [The Bishops are not averse to covering a classic either, if they can put a distinctive slant on it] the majority of Blue Bishops material is original.

This originality has helped the band stand out among their peers and has been one of the elements that allow them to be equally at home at rock festivals as Blues and R&B events.
